Zibanejad noted, "I'm assuming they weren't happy with their first period, and we knew they were going to come out harder."
The Bruins, record 14-12-0, fought back in the third. Casey Mittelstadt, returning from injury, scored at 4:07 by converting a loose puck in a scramble, his fifth goal of the season. Morgan Geekie followed at 5:49, tipping Elias Lindholm's shot for his NHL-leading 18th goal, making it 4-2. Alexis Lafreniere added an empty-netter at 16:36, and Vladislav Gavrikov sealed it at 17:02.
Igor Shesterkin made 19 saves for the Rangers, while Joonas Korpisalo stopped 30 for Boston. Bruins defenseman Hampus Lindholm said, "It was a tough game for us. We weren't ready at the start, weren't ready for a full 60 minutes." Boston was shorthanded without Pastrnak and Zacha, both day-to-day, and Matej Blumel on long-term injured reserve. Georgii Merkulov was recalled for the game.
Adam Fox had three assists, and the Rangers outshot Boston 36-21. Panarin's performance was his 19th four-point game with New York, tying Jean Ratelle for second in franchise history.
