Resignations deepen crisis in Malayalam actors association

Two actors resigned from the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes on Monday, adding to the turmoil following the departure of its president a day earlier.

Mallika Sukumaran and Lakshmipriya stepped down from primary membership in AMMA on June 22, 2026. Sukumaran cited solidarity with Shweta Menon, the association’s first woman president, who resigned after a general body meeting in Kochi the previous day.

The 17-member executive committee had decided to step down following a no-confidence motion. Members faced accusations of failing to manage daily affairs and resolve internal disputes. Lakshmipriya rejected claims that the committee could not present a proper financial statement.

Ansiba Hassan, who resigned as joint secretary in February 2026, called for new leadership involving actors such as Kunchacko Boban, Prithviraj, Asif Ali, and Dhyan Sreenivasan. She urged the group to address members’ concerns and bring back actors, including a survivor from an assault case.
