Ride to Work Day promotes motorcycle commuting today

Motorcyclists around the world are marking Ride to Work Day on June 9 by commuting on two wheels. The annual event encourages greater use of motorcycles and scooters for daily transportation.

Andy Goldfine, founder of Aerostich, established the day to highlight motorcycles as practical transport. A registered non-profit now organizes the event, which provides information on everyday utility riding. The tradition began in 1992 with the first Ride to Work Day on July 22. It later shifted to the third Wednesday in July and then the third Monday in June before settling on the second Tuesday in June to avoid conflicts with other holidays. Volunteers promote the day globally, aiming to reach riders who do not normally use their motorcycles for work commutes. Aerostich supplies gear designed to support such practical use.
