Sean Monaghan and Toyger win Hickstead Derby jump-off

Sean Monaghan guided Toyger to victory in the ClipMyHorse.TV Master's Trophy at the Al Shira’aa Hickstead Derby meeting on June 20.

The 14-year-old gelding delivered a clear round in the 11-strong jump-off to finish three tenths of a second ahead of Abdullah Mohd Al Marri on BBS McGregor.

Toyger had been sidelined since October with minor issues. Monaghan described the win as emotional, noting the horse felt better than ever.

"I knew I had arguably the best horse in the class and was last to go so if everything went right, I could pull it off," Monaghan said. He added that Toyger transforms from an average feel at home to a top performer in the ring.

Monaghan also planned to compete later that day in the British Speed Derby aboard Chef Of Flanders Fields Z.
