A six-week-old Instagram post from Naughty Dog creative director Shaun Escayg has sparked excitement among Uncharted fans for a potential fifth mainline game. The post features a cannon at Fort George in Trinidad and Tobago with the caption 'Research…'. It surfaced widely online earlier this week.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End released nearly 10 years ago, and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy followed close to nine years ago. Both concluded the mainline story for Nathan Drake, yet fans continue to call for Naughty Dog's return to the series. Escayg, who directed The Lost Legacy and served as creative director on The Last of Us: Part I, shared the vague image that evokes the Panama sections of Uncharted 4 due to its location proximity and atmosphere. Naughty Dog has confirmed development on multiple projects. Studio head Neil Druckmann stated last year that the team is working on at least one game alongside Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Vinit Agarwal, former director of the cancelled The Last of Us Online, noted in 2024 that Naughty Dog was pursuing two single-player titles. Druckmann has also teased The Last of Us Part 3 recently, leaving open the possibility that Escayg's post relates to that project instead. However, the Trinidad and Tobago setting does not align closely with known elements of that series.
