The South Korean Foreign Ministry held an international conference in Seoul on Friday with a UNESCO advisory body to discuss improvements in the interpretation and presentation of World Heritage sites.
The event was co-hosted by the ministry and ICOMOS-ICIP. Around 100 experts and officials attended to examine how international standards for heritage interpretation should evolve in response to new challenges.
Oh Jin-hee, director general for public and cultural diplomacy at the ministry, highlighted the role of heritage interpretation in conveying the outstanding universal value of World Heritage properties during her opening remarks.
South Korea has organized 10 such conferences since 2016. The meeting occurred ahead of the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee, which South Korea will chair in Busan from July 19 to 29.
