Steelers third wide receiver may see limited snaps under McCarthy

Mark Kaboly believes the Pittsburgh Steelers' third wide receiver will play a smaller role than expected in the upcoming season. With DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. as the main targets, the position could account for just 25 to 30 percent of snaps.

The Steelers added Michael Pittman Jr. this offseason and have DK Metcalf returning. Kaboly said on the Kaboly + Mack podcast that these two will be the primary producers in the passing game.

Germie Bernard is the favorite to be the third wide receiver after the team traded up for him in the second round. Roman Wilson remains a possibility, though Kaboly noted uncertainty about how either rookie will perform in training camp.

The new head coach Mike McCarthy has used receiver platoons in the past. Kaboly pointed out that the team also has strong options at tight end and running back, including Pat Freiermuth and Jaylen Warren, which could reduce reliance on a third receiver.

McCarthy has shown interest in more two-tight-end sets following early offseason work with Darnell Washington.
