Teachers' union meets with Minister Arzola over SLEP reform pause

The Colegio de Profesores met Monday with Education Minister María Paz Arzola to express concern over the lack of clarity in the announced pause to the reform creating the Servicios Locales de Educación Pública.

The union president, Mario Aguilar, said the announcement is generating a great deal of uncertainty in the education system. He noted that the minister's response did not leave them very reassured at all, as she only indicated the matter was under study. Aguilar explained that any change requires modifying the law and debate in Parliament. He stated this uncertainty harms both the current municipal system and the upcoming SLEP. La Reina Mayor José Manuel Palacios criticized government inaction on the transfer of school infrastructure valued at 110 billion pesos. The Ministry of Education said the difficulties of the transfers are among the elements under evaluation.
