The Odyssey heads for record second weekend at box office

Universal's The Odyssey is on track for a second weekend gross of $84.5 million, a new record for director Christopher Nolan.

The film earned $26 million on its second Friday and is expected to dip 32 percent from its opening frame. This performance would surpass the $75.1 million second weekend of Nolan's 2008 film The Dark Knight.

The Odyssey wrapped its first week with $199.3 million at 3,919 theaters. Its second-weekend outlook has improved from earlier projections of $61 million to $74 million.

The movie is playing in 3,942 theaters this weekend. Among R-rated titles, it ranks behind only Deadpool & Wolverine for the second-highest weekend ever.
