Thunder extend perfect start to 7-0 against Pelicans

The Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 137-106 on Sunday, matching last season's 7-0 start and becoming the NBA's only unbeaten team entering Week 3. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led with 30 points and seven assists in three quarters. The win highlighted OKC's improved three-point shooting and historical significance.

The Thunder's 137-106 victory over the Pelicans capped Week 2 of the 2025-26 NBA season, extending Oklahoma City's season-opening win streak to seven games for the second straight year. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 30 points and dished seven assists in just three quarters, marking his 79th consecutive regular-season game with 20+ points and tying Oscar Robertson for the third-longest streak in NBA history. Seven Thunder players reached double figures in scoring as OKC set season highs with 20 three-pointers made on 41.6% shooting, overcoming their previous last-place ranking in three-point percentage at 29.6%.

New Orleans, led by Zion Williamson's 20 points and Trey Murphy III's 19 points, fell to 0-6 and lost its 11th straight head-to-head matchup against the Thunder. This marks only the third time in NBA history a team has opened back-to-back seasons at 7-0 or better, joining the Houston Rockets (1993-94 and 1994-95) and Boston Celtics (1963-64 and 1964-65)—both of whom won titles in those years.

Elsewhere, streaks ended as the Chicago Bulls (5-1) lost 128-116 to the New York Knicks, with Josh Giddey posting a triple-double (23 points, 12 rebounds, 12 assists), and the San Antonio Spurs (5-1) fell 130-118 to the Phoenix Suns, where Victor Wembanyama recorded nine points, nine rebounds and four blocks. The Los Angeles Lakers improved to 5-2 with a 130-120 win over the Miami Heat, powered by Luka Dončić's 83rd career triple-double (29 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists) and 165 total points through four games—the most by any Laker since Jerry West in 1969-70 and the highest NBA total since Wilt Chamberlain's 205 in 1962-63.

Other Sunday results included the Philadelphia 76ers beating the Brooklyn Nets 129-105 without Joel Embiid, the Cleveland Cavaliers topping the Atlanta Hawks 117-109, the Charlotte Hornets defeating the Utah Jazz 126-103 and the Toronto Raptors winning 117-104 against the Memphis Grizzlies. OKC next faces the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday, aiming for a franchise-record eighth straight win to open the season.
