The Rio Jury Court began on Wednesday the trial of Jeander Vinicius da Silva Braga, accused of murdering actor Jeff Machado in January 2023 and concealing the body.
Jeander Vinicius da Silva Braga, held since July 2023, faces charges of qualified homicide, concealment of a corpse and animal mistreatment. The crime took place in the Campo Grande neighborhood in Rio’s West Zone. The actor was drugged and strangled with a telephone cord, and his body was found in May of that year inside a wooden trunk that had been buried and covered with concrete.
Jeander denies taking part in the killing but admits helping hide the body. According to police, the other defendant, Bruno de Souza Rodrigues, promised Jeff a role in a television novela and received R$ 18,000 from the actor. Bruno will be tried separately on December 10.
Jefferson Machado Costa, aged 44 and born in Araranguá, Santa Catarina, appeared in the Record TV novela “Reis”. Both defendants are also charged with stealing the victim’s belongings.
