Tropical Depression Caloy is forecast to weaken into a low pressure area on Monday, the state weather bureau said. The cyclone remains weak with maximum winds of 45 kilometers per hour as it moves west-northwestward over the Philippine Sea.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration reported on Monday morning that Caloy maintained its status as a weak tropical depression. Pagasa weather specialist Aldaczar Aurelio said the system is expected to weaken into a low pressure area during the day.
Caloy was last located 570 kilometers east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte. It is moving west-northwestward at 15 kilometers per hour with gusts up to 55 kilometers per hour. The depression entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday and is the country’s first cyclone of May.
Its trough is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain and thunderstorms over Eastern Samar and the Dinagat Islands on Monday. No gale warnings are in effect for any seaboard.
A separate low pressure area being monitored 2,100 kilometers east of Mindanao remains at low risk of developing into a tropical cyclone, Pagasa said.
