White Sox name Zach Bove as new pitching coach

The Chicago White Sox announced Zach Bove as their new Major League pitching coach on Tuesday. Matt Wise will return for his third season as the team's bullpen coach.

The Chicago White Sox made a key addition to their coaching staff by naming 37-year-old Zach Bove as their Major League pitching coach. Bove joins the team after spending the last three seasons as a Major League assistant pitching coach with the Kansas City Royals.

During Bove's time with the Royals in 2025, the team ranked sixth in the Majors with a 3.73 ERA, allowing 596 earned runs over 1,436.2 innings pitched. They also permitted the eighth-fewest home runs in baseball at 171. Rookie left-hander Noah Cameron excelled under the Royals' pitching development, ranking among MLB rookies (minimum 100 innings pitched) in several categories: second in WHIP at 1.10 and opponents' average at .214, third in ERA at 2.99, tied for fourth in wins with 9, fifth in starts with 24, strikeout-to-walk ratio at 2.65, and innings pitched at 138.1, and sixth in strikeouts with 114.

A native of Winter Haven, Florida, Bove previously spent four seasons (2019-22) with the Minnesota Twins organization. He served as Minor League assistant pitching coordinator from 2021-22, special projects coordinator in 2020, and pitching coach for the Gulf Coast League Twins in 2019. Before that, Bove worked seven years at College of Central Florida as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator from 2014-18 and hitting coach from 2012-13. He played first base collegiately at the University of Central Florida from 2007-08 and Flagler College from 2009-10, and earned a master's degree in positive coaching and athletic leadership from the University of Missouri in 2015.

Matt Wise, 49, returns for his third season as White Sox bullpen coach after joining prior to the 2024 season. In 2025, the White Sox bullpen set a franchise record with 657 1/3 innings pitched, the second-most in the Majors, and ranked fourth in MLB with 645 strikeouts. Over Wise's tenure, Sox relievers have ranked second in the majors in strikeouts at 1,301 and third in innings pitched at 1,296.

Rookie right-hander Mike Vasil led all MLB relievers last season with 90 innings pitched, becoming the first White Sox rookie to lead the Majors in that category. Among MLB rookies (minimum 100 innings), Vasil ranked first in ERA at 2.50 and opponents' average at .204, fourth in WHIP at 1.25, and 11th in innings pitched at 101.0.
