Wild Rift patch 7.0 introduces Ionia celebrations

League of Legends: Wild Rift will release Patch 7.0 on January 22, marking the start of Season 20 with Ionia-themed updates. The patch features new champions, an updated map, returning game modes, and a Spring Festival event. Players can expect gameplay improvements and a fresh skinline in collaboration with the League of Legends team.

Riot Games has announced Patch 7.0 for League of Legends: Wild Rift, titled Ionia Celebrations, set to launch on January 22 (UTC). This update kicks off Season 20, bringing a host of changes to enhance the mobile MOBA experience, which has been in regional open beta since 2020.

The patch introduces two new champions: Smolder, a scaling ADC known as the Fiery Fledgling, and Mel, a versatile mage who can mirror enemy abilities and play in mid or support roles. The Spring Festival event ties into Ionia Celebrations, offering festival-themed missions and exclusive rewards. A key highlight is the debut of the Petals of Spring skinline, developed in collaboration with the League of Legends team, featuring skins for champions like Lillia and Smolder.

The map receives a significant overhaul with the Ionia Rift, replacing Bandle City. This version offers brighter visuals, reduced jungle fog for better clarity, and new elements like Spirit Flowers that appear after ally deaths or jungle monster steals to carry forward energy. A Mid Lane Wind Zone provides movement speed boosts to encourage roaming.

Gameplay tweaks aim to improve flow and fights, including visible monster respawn timers, new items such as Abyssal Mask, Hollow Radiance, and Guinsoo's Rageblade, streamlined support item builds, more experience for Baron laners, and increased turret damage based on player feedback.

Returning modes include Arena with updated mechanics, a new map, support for up to 16 players, and the chaotic festival monster Fortune Bringer Goldie as a Companion. AAA ARAM becomes permanent, with sleeker visuals, rune updates, and a Flying Swords mechanic for unique blade effects and combos.

Ranked play offers a new Teemo skin as a reward, while the Wild Pass starts with Food Spirits Ziggs and continues with Janitor Thresh. Additional skins include Lunar Empress Morgana Exquisite Edition, Lunar Guardian Sett and Warwick, Lunar Empress Syndra, Dragonblade Talon, and more.

Wild Rift, a free-to-play 5v5 battle arena game optimized for touchscreens, plans a console release in the future. It emphasizes competitive esports, refreshed champions, and a global community.
