Withings launches U-Scan toilet health sensor

Withings has introduced the U-Scan, a device that analyzes urine samples directly in the toilet bowl. First unveiled at CES in 2023, the sensor uses thermal detection and biochemical analysis for on-site health monitoring. It follows a similar product from Kohler launched a few weeks earlier.

In a recent development in bathroom health technology, Withings has officially launched the U-Scan. The device, which was first shown at CES in 2023, attaches inside the toilet bowl to monitor user health through urine analysis.

A thermal sensor in the U-Scan detects when a fresh sample is deposited. It then collects a small portion of the urine and analyzes it using miniature biochemical sensors housed in an interchangeable cartridge. This on-site processing allows for immediate insights into health metrics, though specific details on the measured parameters were not provided in the announcement.

The launch comes shortly after Kohler, a bathroom and plumbing company, debuted its Dekoda sensor a few weeks ago. The Dekoda also installs on the toilet bowl and tracks gut health and hydration levels, indicating a growing interest in integrated wellness devices for everyday routines.

Withings positions the U-Scan as a convenient tool for personal health tracking, building on the prototype's promise from CES. No pricing or availability details were mentioned, but the product aims to make health monitoring seamless and private.
