Yogyakarta Mayor Hasto Wardoyo has urged residents and mosque caretakers to properly manage waste from kurban animal slaughter during Idul Adha to avoid polluting rivers and public drains.
Hasto Wardoyo delivered the appeal while accompanying the slaughter of a cow donated by President Prabowo Subianto at the Giwangan Slaughterhouse on Wednesday 27 May 2026. He stressed that blood and offal waste must be handled specially.
The Giwangan facility has limited capacity and can only process 200 to 300 cows over four days. Meanwhile the total number of kurban animals in Yogyakarta City reaches about 2,800 cows and nearly 8,000 goats.
The presidential aid cow was allocated to residents of Kampung Gemblakan Bawah and other villages along the Code River that are relatively isolated. Hasto estimated the cow weighing more than one ton could meet the needs of 200 to 300 families.
"The most important thing is that we control the waste processing," Hasto said. He also confirmed that blood waste channels and collection points at the facility do not pollute the environment.
