YouTube streams over 100 classic Sesame Street episodes

YouTube has launched streaming of more than 100 full episodes of the iconic children's show Sesame Street on its platform and YouTube Kids app. The collection includes the series' first episode from 1969 and other memorable moments. This move stems from a partnership between YouTube and Sesame Workshop, the show's producer.

YouTube's new offering brings a treasure trove of Sesame Street content to families, available for free on the main Sesame Street YouTube channel and the Sesame Street Classics channel. The episodes cover both recent seasons and timeless highlights, such as the reveal of Snuffleupagus, a visit from Fred Rogers, and the premiere that introduced beloved characters like Big Bird, Bert, and Ernie.

The inaugural episode, which aired in 1969, features early appearances including Kermit the Frog alongside the Muppets. This archive is part of a partnership announced last year between YouTube and Sesame Workshop, positioning YouTube as the largest digital library for Sesame Street material. In addition to full episodes, viewers can access Shorts with the Muppets and compilations running 1 to 2 hours, themed around educational topics like ABCs and 123s, STEM, Adventure and Imagination, and Friendship and Play.

While classic content finds a home on YouTube, new episodes of Sesame Street's 56th season premiered in November and are available on Netflix, local PBS stations, and PBS Kids digital platforms. This shift follows HBO's decision not to renew its decade-long partnership with Sesame Workshop, moving fresh installments to the streamer and public broadcasting.
