11-year-old boy takes wheel after father faints in Hong Kong

An 11-year-old boy in Hong Kong was forced to take the wheel after his father fainted while driving, causing the car to collide with another vehicle and a railing. The father was rushed to hospital for treatment, while the boy and the other driver were unhurt. The incident occurred on Monday evening near Kennedy Town.

On Monday evening at about 6.20pm, a 47-year-old father fainted while driving westbound along Shing Sai Road and turning into Sands Street in Kennedy Town, Hong Kong. The 11-year-old boy seated next to him grabbed the wheel in an attempt to stop the car.

However, the vehicle collided with another car before crashing into roadside railings near Rock Hill Road, where it finally came to a halt. Police said the boy and the 66-year-old driver of the other car were unhurt. The father was rushed to nearby Queen Mary Hospital for treatment.

The incident highlights the risks of sudden health issues while driving, particularly when children are present. Shing Sai Road is in Sai Wan, connecting key routes like New Praya Road and Rock Hill Road. The area sees heavy traffic, and while such events are rare, they underscore the importance of monitoring health on the road. Police have not disclosed the cause of the father's faint, but the episode has sparked public discussion on road safety.
