Calle Gunnarsson steps down from Örebro assistant coach role

Calle Gunnarsson, the former NHL defenseman and Stanley Cup winner, has left his temporary position as assistant coach with Örebro Hockey in the SHL. He will return to his role as the club's development manager. The team is now searching for a new coach specializing in defense.

Örebro Hockey's sport chief Henrik Löwdahl praised Gunnarsson's contributions during the final weeks of the SHL season. Gunnarsson stepped in after Tobias Thermell departed from the coaching staff, providing a temporary boost under head coach Niklas Eriksson. With the season now concluded, both parties agreed it was best for him to resume his previous responsibilities focused on player development. Löwdahl stated, 'We are very satisfied with how Calle joined the team in recent weeks. After sitting down together post-season, we decided the best for Calle now is to return to his prior role. We thank him for stepping up in a tough spot and look forward to developing our young players.'
