Charley Hull carded a five-under 66 in the opening round of the Amundi Evian Championship on Thursday. The round included a mid-round ice cream delivery on the course for her caddie.
Hull started with a bogey and stood at two over through six holes at Evian Resort Club. She recovered with birdies on holes 15 and 16, then closed with an eagle on the 18th to finish two shots off the lead.
The ice cream arrived on the 15th hole. Video showed a delivery of a vanilla cone that Hull said her boyfriend had purchased for caddie Adam Woodward.
Hull joked after the round that the treat may have sparked her strong finish. “It’s not shy kids don’t get sweets, it’s shy caddies don’t get ice cream,” she said.
She also described her usual on-course eating schedule of snacks every two holes plus plenty of water and electrolytes.
