Eddie Genborg leaves SHL for AHL tryout and Detroit NHL contract

Eddie Genborg, after a breakout season with Timrå in Sweden's SHL, will finish the current campaign in the AHL. He has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Detroit Red Wings, starting next season. Genborg heads to the Grand Rapids Griffins on an amateur tryout for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.

Eddie Genborg enjoyed a strong breakthrough season with Timrå in the SHL, recording 25 points over 42 matches after transferring from Linköping ahead of the campaign. As one of the standout players in Sweden's JVM team that secured gold earlier this season, the forward helped drive Timrå's efforts, though the team missed the playoffs. Now, Genborg is departing Sweden for North America to conclude his season with the Detroit Red Wings' affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins, on an amateur tryout for the rest of the 2025-26 season. In addition, he has inked a three-year entry-level contract with the Detroit Red Wings, set to begin with the 2026-27 season. This move marks the end of his SHL stint and opens a new chapter in professional hockey across the Atlantic.
