Klarna welcomes new tough credit law stopping commissions

Klarna welcomes Sweden's interpretation of the EU Consumer Credit Directive that blocks kickbacks to e-commerce merchants. The company sees a drastic difference compared to ten years ago.

The new law affects credit companies such as Klarna, Qliro, Svea and Norion. It puts obstacles in the way of the commissions long offered in online sales of credit solutions.

Klarna states that sweetened commissions were an important part of the company's sales approach ten years ago. Today the company views the change positively.

"Drastic difference" is how Klarna describes the effect of the tougher legislation according to reports from 29 June 2026.
