Nitric acid spill in Bulltofta requires chemical divers

Emergency services were called to Bulltofta in Malmö on Monday after hundreds of liters of nitric acid leaked in an industrial premises. Police are investigating the incident as a workplace accident and work environment violation, with no injuries reported.

The incident took place on Flygplansgatan in Bulltofta, with the emergency call to rescue services at 14:40 on Monday. Patrik Nilsson, duty officer at Räddningstjänsten Syd, described it as an acid spill and estimated the volume at around 200 liters.

Rescue services deployed a major response and cordoned off the area to manage the leak. By 15:00, chemical divers entered to collect the spilled liquid. Nilsson confirmed no damage had been reported and no individuals were injured.

The operation continued into the evening. By 19:00, rescue services remained on site, where chemical divers had moved nearby pallets and applied absorbent material to soak up the spill. Gustaf Sandell, duty officer, stated: "We are currently shifting personnel. They will go in and collect this absorbent material, then we will conclude."

Police are leading the investigation into the suspected workplace accident, but no further details on the cause have emerged. The response highlights the need for swift action in chemical spills within industrial settings.
