Peter Lambert leads Astros past Tigers 4-2

Right-hander Peter Lambert threw seven innings to guide the Houston Astros to a 4-2 win over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday at Daikin Park.

Lambert allowed one run and two hits while retiring 20 of the first 23 batters he faced. He lowered his ERA to 3.23 and improved to 6-4 on the season.

Jeremy Peña hit his fourth home run of the year in the third inning. RBI doubles from Yordan Alvarez and Isaac Paredes in the fifth and an RBI single from Peña in the sixth gave the Astros a 4-0 lead.

Astros manager Joe Espada praised Lambert for pounding the strike zone and keeping the Tigers off balance. Peña noted that Lambert gives the team a chance to win every time he pitches.

The victory marked the Astros' second consecutive series win. They improved to 35-41 overall and are 15-10 in their past 25 games.
