SVT's mapping reveals that the population in Dalarna county will decrease by 9,236 people from 2024 to 2040, based on SCB figures. Only a few municipalities are projected to see stable or slight growth. The largest declines are expected in places like Ludvika and Borlänge.
SVT's analysis, drawing on data from Statistics Sweden (SCB), projects a decline of 9,236 people in Dalarna county's population between 2024 and 2040. Most municipalities in the region face shrinking numbers.
Only Gagnef, Falun, Leksand, and Rättvik are expected to hold steady or see minor gains. Rättvik leads with a forecasted increase of 109 residents, or one percent.
Ludvika anticipates the sharpest drop, losing 2,262 people, or 8.5 percent.
Other areas with notable declines include Borlänge (-2,093, -4.1 percent), Avesta (-1,251, -5.6 percent), Hedemora (-808, -5.3 percent), and Älvdalen (-535, -7.8 percent). The figures come from SCB calculations featured in SVT's data journalism.
