President William Ruto on Sunday, February 22, urged United Democratic Alliance leaders in Kiambu County to set aside their political differences and focus on serving residents. Speaking at the Jesus Compassion Ministries anniversary in Ruiru, he warned against blame games over the Githurai demolitions and promised road developments. He also announced the launch of a Thika-Nairobi expressway in September 2026.
President William Ruto spoke at the third anniversary celebrations of Jesus Compassion Ministries (JCM) in Ruiru, Kiambu County, on Sunday, February 22. He emphasized the need for unity among United Democratic Alliance leaders, including Governor Kimani Wamatangi and Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a, who have had political differences. “I want all leaders to listen—from MCAs to governors, MPs, senators, women representatives, and myself as president. We are servants of the people of Kiambu and all Kenyans. If the work is not done, we are the ones to blame,” Ruto said.
He referenced the recent Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) demolitions of business stalls in Githurai along the Thika Superhighway after a seven-day notice. Governor Wamatangi stated there was no opposition to development but called for a meeting with KeNHA officials to provide compensation to those affected, even if as little as Ksh 10,000 or 20,000. “Here in Githurai, as much as we want development, we really want it. It does not cost those gentlemen anything to come and sit with us so we can get a lasting solution,” Wamatangi said.
MP Ng’ang’a vowed to contest for the gubernatorial seat, and Ruto cautioned against politics at this time. Ruto assured the implementation of the Kenya Kwanza manifesto and donated Sh9 million to the church, to be disbursed in phases of Sh3 million annually, plus an additional Sh5 million for the church’s NYOTA program.
Additionally, Ruto announced the launch in September 2026 of the Thika to Museum Hill expressway to reduce traffic congestion. The government has allocated over Ksh15 billion for Kiambu roads in 2026, and Ksh22 billion for dualling the road from Pangani to Denderu. This follows his December 2025 announcement.
Outside the event, US-based Pastor Charles Wachira resigned from his role at the JCM US branch following the invitation to Ruto, citing concerns over ethics and justice.
