The 2026 BC Winter Games wrapped up on February 28, 2026, following intense competitions held from February 26 to 28. More than 1,400 athletes, coaches, and officials from across British Columbia took part, supported by around 1,600 volunteers from the West Kootenay region. Events spanned multiple facilities, including the Black Jack Ski Club and Red Mountain in Rossland for skiing, the Beaver Valley Arena in Fruitvale, Selkirk College in Castlegar, and the Trail Curling Centre, where the final medal was awarded at approximately 9 p.m. on Saturday.
In total, 479 medals were distributed among eight zones. Zone 5 Vancouver Coastal led with 117 medals: 40 gold, 34 silver, and 43 bronze. Zone 4 Fraser River followed with 111 medals, including 38 gold, 33 silver, and 40 bronze. Other zones recorded: Zone 2 Thompson-Okanagan with 62 medals (13 gold, 28 silver, 21 bronze); Zone 6 Vancouver Island-Central Coast with 62 (11 gold, 22 silver, 29 bronze); Zone 3 Fraser Valley with 50 (18 gold, 13 silver, 19 bronze); Zone 1 Kootenays with 38 (14 gold, 11 silver, 13 bronze); Zone 8 Cariboo North with 30 (12 gold, 6 silver, 12 bronze); and Zone 7 North West with 9 (1 gold, 2 silver, 6 bronze).
Curling finals drew particular attention at the Trail Curling Centre. Zone 6 Vancouver Island-Central Coast secured gold in the women's event with a 7-5 victory over Zone 3 Fraser Valley. In the men's final, Zone 3 Fraser Valley edged out Zone 2 Thompson-Okanagan 7-6. Ringette games occurred at the Rossland Arena, featuring a consolation match between Zone 6 Vancouver Island and a combined team from Zones 3 and 8. Gymnastics performances took place at Rossland Secondary School.
This multi-sport gathering builds on the area's sporting history, following the recent Olympic successes of local siblings Remi and Jasmine Drolet in cross-country skiing at the Milano-Cortina Games. The event also positions Trail-Rossland to host upcoming U18 BC Hockey championships later in March.
