Tyresö neighborhood classified as vulnerable area

Police have classified Granängsringen in Tyresö as a vulnerable area, eliciting mixed reactions from residents. Some feel unsafe following a shooting earlier this year, while others are surprised and claim safety has improved. The neighborhood, built in the 1960s, now appears on Sweden's list of vulnerable places.

On Tuesday, December 2, 2025, police presented their situational report on vulnerable areas in Sweden, adding Granängsringen in Tyresö to the list. The neighborhood consists of rental apartments from the 1960s million program. Residents have divided opinions on the classification.

Karin Olsson, 57, who lives nearby with a son in the area, describes a sense of insecurity. She recounts an incident a few months ago: "Suddenly I heard shots. There were police cars everywhere here. Then I read shortly after that it was a shooting right up here." She takes detours to shop and avoids the area late at night. "It feels unsafe, I have to say. I was a bit shocked because I read it myself today, that it's one of Sweden's worst areas." Despite this, she welcomes the attention: "It might be good that it comes out, because then there might be extra checks here."

Afsaneh Sharifi, 60, who moved here three years ago, is more surprised. She feels it has become calmer with cameras and better lighting: "Most people are kind and helpful." However, she worries about her grandchildren: "That they might end up in gangs. But unfortunately, it's everywhere in Sweden today."

Simon Toth, 39, with four children in the local school, views it as a general issue in Stockholm: "It comes in waves. I feel that Stockholm generally is a vulnerable area." He calls for stronger neighbor cooperation.

Pedro Nygren expresses surprise in Dagens Nyheter: "I would like to know what the police base their assessment on." Many residents claim safety has increased and disturbances decreased, contrasting with isolated incidents like the shooting.
