An 11-year-old boy was bitten by a shark at Praia de Piedade in Jaboatão dos Guararapes on Sunday (31). João Lucas Nemézio suffered injuries to his hip and hand and underwent surgery after hospital care.
The incident occurred around 13h40. Bathers called the Fire Department and Samu. Lifeguards provided first aid on the sand and the boy was taken to Hospital da Aeronáutica in Piedade.
He was then transferred to Hospital da Restauração in central Recife. He arrived conscious and in stable condition around 15h and was sent directly to the surgical center.
This is the third recorded case in Pernambuco in 2026. With the attack, the state's coast now totals 83 shark incidents since 1992. The area has had warning signs since a 1999 state decree.
