A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck on Thursday, May 14, with its epicenter in Chocó and was felt across multiple regions of the country without causing major damage.

The Colombian Geological Service reported that the seismic event occurred at 7:48 a.m. with a depth of 112 kilometers and its epicenter in the municipality of Litoral de San Juan in the department of Chocó.

The quake was felt in cities including Cali, Popayán, Manizales, and Armenia. In Valle del Cauca authorities reported calm conditions with no emergencies or material damage.

In Caldas, buildings were evacuated preventively in Manizales and minor fissures were recorded in Anserma. In Huila no affectations were reported.

Hours later at 11:47 a.m. a second quake of magnitude 3.1 was recorded in Mutatá, Antioquia, with no associated damage.
