Amanda Anisimova withdraws from Italian Open with wrist injury

Amanda Anisimova has pulled out of the Italian Open in Rome because of a left wrist injury, marking another setback in her clay-court preparations for the French Open.

Tournament officials announced the withdrawal on May 7, confirming that Elena Gabriela Ruse would enter the main draw as a lucky loser. Anisimova had been set to play Jelena Ostapenko in the second round. The American has not competed in any matches during the current clay-court season after earlier withdrawals from Charleston and Madrid due to the same issue.
