A 66-year-old ambulance driver died after contacting a live wire while taking a break near the Directorate of Public Instruction campus in Nungambakkam early on Sunday.
M. Krishnan, a resident of Guduvanchery, was working as an ambulance driver for a private hospital. He had dropped off a patient on College Road in Nungambakkam and was heading back to the hospital when he stopped the vehicle for a break at around 4 a.m.
As he stepped out, he came into contact with a live wire on an electric pole and was electrocuted. Passers-by alerted the Nungambakkam police, who recovered the body and sent it to Government Kilpauk Medical College hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
