Her family said she dreamed of specializing in internal medicine in America. Police have recovered a suicide note and launched an investigation.
The suspicious death of 38-year-old Dr. Rohini from Padma Rao Nagar in Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh, has shocked her family in Hyderabad. According to Chilkalguda police, on Saturday, the domestic help alerted the family after the door did not open, leading relatives to break it down and find Rohini dead. Initial investigations point to suicide, primarily due to the rejection of her US visa.
The family revealed that Rohini completed her MBBS in Kyrgyzstan from 2005 to 2010 and consistently excelled in studies. Her mother, Lakshmi, said, "Rohini wanted to go to America to specialize in internal medicine. After the visa rejection, her stress kept increasing, and she started feeling isolated." The family had advised her to practice in India, but Rohini believed career prospects and earnings were better in the US. She was unmarried and had devoted her life to her medical career.
A suicide note was recovered from the house, in which Rohini mentioned her depression and the mental trauma from the visa rejection. According to India Today, the preliminary report suspects the cause of death as an overdose of sleeping pills or self-injection on Friday night. Police have registered a case and begun investigating all angles, with the postmortem report awaited. The incident raises questions about mental health and the stress of visa denials.
