Investigating Directorate Against Corruption head Andrea Johnson has asked to leave her post immediately. She wrote to National Director of Public Prosecutions Andy Mothibi and President Cyril Ramaphosa requesting that her three-month notice period be waived.
In her letter, Johnson said the move would serve the institutions and the country best. She described the past five months as challenging and said attacks on her person and official capacity had been unprecedented.
The National Prosecuting Authority confirmed that Mothibi received the letter and is processing it. The Presidency has not commented on the request.
Johnson is due to continue her testimony before the Madlanga Commission on Monday. The commission has questioned her over allegations that she gave suspended Crime Intelligence deputy head Major General Feroz Khan access to an assault and intimidation docket before he submitted his warning statement.
