Augusta National launches searchable Masters video archive

Augusta National has debuted the Masters Vault, a digital video archive on the Masters website that lets users search for every shot from final rounds between 1968 and 2025. Powered by IBM's watsonx AI platform, the tool provides easy access to key moments via simple keyword searches. It also integrates video clips into players' profile pages.

Historically, early Masters broadcasts from 1956 to 1969 by CBS covered only holes 15 through 18, leaving much of the course unseen by television audiences. Modern coverage now includes all 18 holes from every round, plus range shots, marking a significant evolution in fan access to the tournament at Augusta National. The new Masters Vault, launched Thursday on the Masters website, builds on this by offering a searchable archive specifically for final-round shots spanning 1968 to 2025. Users enter keywords into the search bar, such as “Phil Mickelson 18th green 2004” or “Tiger Woods 7th hole shot 2 2010,” and the system cues up the exact moment from the tee, fairway, or green. Thrilling examples include “Louis Oosthuizen 2nd hole shot 2 2012,” while dramatic ones feature “Scott Hoch playoff 10th hole 1989” and “Rory McIlroy 10th hole shot 1 2011.” Additionally, individual player profile pages include a “Past Masters Performances” section where scorecards link to video of every shot from their Masters history. This feature creates an immersive experience, though it may consume considerable time exploring the extensive content.
