Austin Reaves re-signs with Lakers on record deal

Austin Reaves has agreed to re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers on a four-year, $185 million contract that includes a player option in the final season.

The deal marks the largest contract ever signed by an undrafted free agent in NBA history. It equals a full maximum salary for a player with six or fewer years of experience.

Reaves had been underpaid on his prior deal because of collective bargaining agreement rules that limited offers from other teams. The Lakers used that leverage to retain him at a lower rate before this new agreement.

The signing does not reduce the Lakers' projected $48 million in cap space for the current offseason. The team can still pursue additional free agents or trades while operating above or below the salary cap.

Other teams that showed interest in Reaves, including the Detroit Pistons, must now target remaining guards such as Quentin Grimes and Coby White.

Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves is optimistic about playing in Game 5 against the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night, according to ESPN. The Lakers lead the first-round playoff series 3-1 despite missing Reaves and Luka Dončić. Reaves has been sidelined since April 2 with an oblique strain.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have locked in second-year guard Ajay Mitchell on a three-year contract worth nine million dollars. Mitchell has emerged as a key contributor during the team's playoff run, matching the production of reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander through the first three games.

Walker, the 2022 first overall pick, has amassed 27.5 sacks over four NFL seasons at age 25.
