Avowed's fall update delayed to February 2026

Obsidian Entertainment has delayed the planned fall update for its RPG Avowed, now combining it with additional features into a larger anniversary update set for February 2026. The update will mark the game's first anniversary since its February 2025 launch on PC and Xbox Series X|S. Originally scheduled features like New Game Plus and Photo Mode will arrive alongside new content.

Announcement Details

Obsidian announced the delay on December 2, 2025, stating that the fall update's features will be integrated into a more substantial release next year. "This update will include everything originally planned for fall, plus additional features that will make it our biggest update yet. Stay tuned as we head into the new year for more details on what’s planned for the Living Lands," the developer shared.

Update Contents

The February 2026 update will feature New Game Plus and Photo Mode, a new weapon type, additional character presets, expanded Godlike feature options, and the ability to alter character appearances, among other enhancements. This builds on prior updates: the spring patch introduced a no-spiders mode, while the summer update added custom map markers.

Game Background

Avowed launched in February 2025 and is available via Xbox Game Pass, like other Microsoft titles. GameSpot's review gave it a 6/10, with reviewer Alessandro Barbosa noting, "Avowed's impactful and satisfying combat is undone by a widely unbalanced upgrade system and an uninteresting story that wastes its potential."

The game originated as a multiplayer-focused project blending elements of Destiny and Skyrim but pivoted to a single-player RPG under director Carrie Patel, who has since departed Obsidian. Patel expressed interest in future Avowed content, though no sequel is confirmed.
