Bafana Bafana are on their way to Los Angeles for their second-round match against Canada after a 1-0 victory over South Korea.
South Africa advanced to the FIFA World Cup knockout stage for the first time after Thapelo Maseko scored in the 63rd minute to beat South Korea 1-0 on 24 June in Monterrey.
The team made a brief stop in Pachuca to recover and give thanks before heading to Los Angeles. Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie called the players history makers.
Bafana face Canada, ranked 30th in the world, on 28 June in Los Angeles. Coach Hugo Broos said the team believes in itself and will fight for the full 90 minutes.
Maseko said after the match: “It’s an incredible feeling. I feel like I’m dreaming.”
