Bayern Munich defeats Union Berlin in DFB-Pokal round of 16

FC Bayern Munich advanced to the DFB-Pokal quarterfinals with a 3:2 victory at Union Berlin. Only one goal came from the Munich side itself, while two own goals by Berlin and two penalties for Union shaped the match. Harry Kane scored Bayern's sole goal.

The round-of-16 match in Berlin finished 3:2 in favor of FC Bayern Munich. The visitors benefited early from an own goal: In the 12th minute, a corner from captain Joshua Kimmich ricocheted off Ilyas Ansah's thigh into his own net. Eight minutes later, Harry Kane headed in from another Kimmich corner to make it 2:0 (24th minute).

Union Berlin pulled one back via penalty: After a VAR review for handball by Jonathan Tah, Leopold Querfeld converted confidently to 1:2 (40th minute). Just before halftime, Diogo Leite scored another own goal from a Michael Olise free-kick cross (45+4th minute), restoring Bayern's two-goal lead.

After the break, the hosts earned a second penalty for a foul by Kane on Leite. Querfeld scored again, with Manuel Neuer diving the wrong way (55th minute). Despite a chance for Kane (62nd minute), Union dominated thereafter: Diogo Leite (71st), Ansah (73rd and 77th), and Querfeld (85th) came close to equalizing. A goal by Luis Díaz was disallowed for offside (76th minute).
