Eleven-year-old FM Bodhana Sivanandan scored an international master norm and defeated a 2600-rated grandmaster at the Dole Open in France last week.

Bodhana finished the nine-round Masters tournament with 5/9 and a 2463 performance rating. She secured her second WGM norm before the final round and completed the IM norm by drawing IM Samrug Narayanan in the last game.

The English prodigy opened with a victory over 2628-rated GM Marc'Andria Maurizzi, becoming the youngest girl known to defeat a player rated over 2600 in classical chess. She also drew with GMs Maxim Rodshtein and Paul Velten.

The tournament ran from July 18 to 26 with nearly 300 players and a €30,000 prize fund. GM Haik Martirosyan won on tiebreaks with 7.5/9.

Bodhana's IM norm at age 11 years, 4 months, and 19 days breaks the previous record held by GM Judit Polgar since 1988.
