Bragantino beats Atlético-MG 1-0 and remains Brasileirão leader

Under heavy rain, Red Bull Bragantino defeated Atlético-MG 1-0 on Wednesday at Estádio Cícero de Souza Marques, in the second round of the Brazilian Championship. Gustavo Neves' lone goal secured the São Paulo team's unbeaten run in the competition. Atlético-MG has only one point and is still seeking its first win.

The match, played under heavy rain conditions, was part of the Brasileirão's second round. Bragantino took the lead in the 37th minute of the first half, with Gustavo Neves volleying home the rebound from Gabriel's shot, following a cross from Juninho Capixaba. The move beat Preciado's marking and found the bottom left corner past goalkeeper Éverson.

Earlier, at the 25th minute, Gabriel forced a strong save from Éverson with a powerful long-range shot. At the end of the first half, in the 44th minute, Neves nearly doubled the lead with a header that Éverson tipped onto the post.

In the second half, Bragantino stayed in control and created opportunities, such as Gustavo Marques' dangerous header in the 15th minute from Gustavinho's cross. Atlético-MG responded in the 26th minute, as Cuello hit the crossbar with a curling shot from outside the box on a rehearsed corner kick. In the 29th minute, the Argentine intercepted the ball and shot from a tight angle, posing another threat.

In the 38th minute, Cuello found the net, but the referee disallowed the goal for a prior foul. Late on, in the 48th minute, Mosqueira fired just wide after receiving unmarked on the right. In added time, Renan Lodi was fouled in the box, sparking protests, but no penalty was awarded.

The win keeps Bragantino at the top and unbeaten in the Brasileirão. Atlético-MG, with one point, faces Athletic on Saturday in the Mineiro's seventh round, while the Massa Bruta travels to Velo Clube on Sunday.
