Police detained around 60 people, mostly youths, during a large drunken gathering on the A6 area in Jönköping on Easter Eve evening. Several assaults and drug offences were reported, and a camper burned in the midst of a crowd of 6,000–7,000. Operations leader Andreas Fyhr described high alcohol levels and much disorder.
A large motor show is taking place at Elmia in Jönköping over the Easter weekend. After closing, thousands gathered to party on the A6 area, also called Asecs. Already on Good Friday evening, police detained about 15 for drunk driving, disturbances, and assaults.
The chaos escalated on Easter Eve evening. Around 9 pm, an estimated 6,000–7,000 people, mostly youths, were on site. Police detained around 60, handled about a dozen assaults with three arrests, and eight drug offences.
"We have around 60 detained," said operations leader Andreas Fyhr. "There is a lot of people, fights, disorder, and high alcohol levels." Police officer Linus Maxe noted the assaults were not serious.
Just before 11 pm, a camper burned fiercely to the ground amid the crowd, which chanted "Asecs!". The cause is unknown, and no one was injured. At 11:30 pm, a minor traffic collision was reported in a roundabout, with no injuries.
Police will remain on site for several more hours.
