Chevron begins drilling at Egypt's Narges gas field

Chevron has started drilling a new natural gas well in Egypt's Narges field. The move is part of efforts to increase local production and the company's regional output.

Chevron has begun drilling operations at the Narges natural gas field in the Mediterranean. Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi inspected the work aboard the drillship Stena Forth.

The field is operated by Chevron with partners Eni, Mubadala, and Tharwa Petroleum. Badawi said the project supports plans to speed up development of gas discoveries and cut imports.

Chevron executive Clay Neff said in March that the company plans two wells in Egypt this year. The firm aims to increase its regional production capacity by up to 50 per cent over five years.
