A Chilean Air Force plane took off Friday night bound for Caracas carrying 35,000 vaccines, medicines, food and aid kits.

The Interior Undersecretariat and the Ministry of Health led the shipment, which also includes the return of 45 Chilean firefighters after ten days of work in La Guaira. The flight carries 30,000 doses of tetanus vaccine and 5,000 against measles, rubella and mumps, plus 13 tons of cargo that includes medicines donated by the National Chamber of Pharmaceutical Laboratories valued at more than 200 million pesos.

Undersecretary Máximo Pavez stated that “Chile reaffirms its commitment to international solidarity and to a rapid, coordinated and effective response to emergencies”. Minister May Chomali explained that the aid responds to requests from the Venezuelan government due to outbreaks of measles, diphtheria and tetanus.

SENAPRED contributed 500 hygiene kits and 288 family food boxes, while Walmart Chile donated tents, flashlights and basic necessities. The operation was coordinated with the Pan American Health Organization for vaccine distribution.
