China's oil and gas output hits record high in 2025

The National Energy Administration said Tuesday that China’s crude oil output reached a record 216 million metric tons in 2025, with total oil and gas output hitting 420 million tons of oil equivalent.

The report noted that natural gas production rose by more than 10 billion cubic meters for the ninth straight year.

Shale oil output exceeded 8.5 million tonnes, more than ten times the 2018 level.

The oil and gas sector carried out a seven-year action plan for exploration and development from 2019 to 2025.

The National Energy Administration said the sector will start a new round of strategic campaigns in 2026 while keeping crude oil output above 200 million tonnes.
