Clínica Medilaser leads blood cancer diagnosis and treatment

Clínica Medilaser in Neiva, Huila, is establishing itself as a regional reference center for comprehensive blood cancer management. Led by Dr. Álvaro Eduardo Mondragón Cardona, the institution provides advanced treatments combining chemotherapy and immunotherapy. This allows patients from southern Colombia to receive specialized care without traveling elsewhere.

Huila is positioning itself as a key hub in southern Colombia for the diagnosis and treatment of malignant blood diseases, thanks to the efforts of Clínica Medilaser at its Abner Lozano headquarters in Neiva. The institution has a highly specialized team, led by hematologist and clinical oncologist Dr. Álvaro Eduardo Mondragón Cardona, who addresses complex disorders such as hemoglobin alterations, immune system issues, platelets, and blood cancers, including leukemias and lymphomas.

"We deal with hemoglobin disorders, immune system alterations, platelets, and of course, blood cancers like leukemias and lymphomas. Our work is to search, find, and treat these diseases in time," states Dr. Mondragón. While a blood cancer diagnosis can be devastating, he emphasizes that advanced therapies provide real hope. "We have therapies that combine chemotherapy and immunotherapy, which have changed the fate of many cases. We perform all phases of diagnosis, induction, and consolidation of treatment, in safe conditions with continuous support."

The Abner Lozano headquarters features exclusive isolation floors for patients with malignant hematological diseases, ensuring safe care with high biosafety standards. In partnership with IMO – Instituto Médico Oncológico, an integral Oncological Route has been implemented, including specialized evaluation, emotional support, and multidisciplinary care. In addition to blood cancer, the service treats solid tumors such as those in the breast, prostate, colon, rectum, stomach, and skin.

The team includes Dr. María Paula Álvarez Suárez, leader of advanced hospitalization in Hemato-Oncology, and Hediy Julieth Callejas Pérez, head of Nursing and leader of the Oncological Route. Along with surgical oncologists, coloproctology specialists, gastrointestinal, thoracic, head and neck surgeons, oncology psychologists, nutritionists, and physical therapists, they aim to restore hope and quality of life. Warning signs include extreme fatigue, paleness, recurrent fever, weight loss, swollen lymph nodes, or blood test alterations.

This service strengthens access to comprehensive care for affected families in the region.
