A 2025 study by the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) shows that 74% of Colombians plan trips at least three months ahead. This trend strengthens ahead of June and July vacations, allowing access to better flight and hotel rates, as well as customized itineraries.

Advance planning cuts last-minute stress and optimizes resources, per the report. Ireth Rodríguez, head of the ICT's Vacation Segment Promotion and Development Department, stated: “We're seeing a more strategic traveler who plans ahead and chooses destinations that truly allow disconnection. While 49% still opts for tour packages, 42% prefers independent organization, blending planning with personalization.”

The average trip length is 12.7 days, highlighting the need for prior organization to maximize time. Mid-year seasons are key for longer breaks and prioritizing well-being, Rodríguez noted.
