Conduct requirements for residence permits tightened

The Riksdag decided on Monday to tighten conduct requirements for residence permits. The new rules take effect on July 13.

The tightened conduct requirements mean that a foreigner's conduct will be taken into account to a greater extent than before in decisions to grant or revoke residence permits.

Government representatives and investigators have cited examples such as not following laws and regulations, not complying with authority decisions, systematically ignoring debts or fines, and working illegally.

The Left Party and the Green Party voted against the proposal.
