Councilor Mileydy Yurani Villada González was killed on Thursday while having lunch at a restaurant in the municipality of Obando, Valle del Cauca.
According to witnesses, several unknown men called the political leader outside the establishment in the Molino sector. Seconds later, shots were heard and she received multiple bullet wounds, dying at the scene before receiving medical attention.
The councilor, who had served three consecutive terms on the Obando Municipal Council and was mentioned as a possible mayoral candidate, caused shock in the local community.
The National Police activated a lockdown plan on municipal roads after the attack. The assailants reportedly fled on an NX motorcycle toward La Victoria. Authorities confirmed the homicide and requested citizen support for the investigation, which includes collecting testimonies and reviewing security cameras.
