The Kyoto District Court on Tuesday rejected a lawsuit by Kyoto Prefecture residents seeking to halt operations at the Oi nuclear power plant's reactors 3 and 4 in Fukui Prefecture.
The residents argued that earthquake safety measures were inadequate and evacuation plans were flawed. Presiding Judge Akira Saito ruled that Kansai Electric's earthquake assessment and safety measures were "not illogical."
The lawsuit was filed in November 2012 and grew to about 3,400 plaintiffs. Demands to halt units 1 and 2 were withdrawn in 2019 after their decommissioning was decided.
The plaintiffs said they plan to appeal. Key disputes included fault length estimates and the practicality of evacuation plans during emergencies.
